Saturday, November 23, 2019 I'm part of the online Marvel Vs Capcom fighting game community that Chris was also part of. We knew Chris as 'Mindgame,' then later as 'Spirant' and 'AlwaysTurtling.'
I first met Chris online in 2005 on Kaillera (the app we played on) where he was one of the original Marvel Vs Capcom players. By 2009, he was one of the best players and one of my closest friends online. We spent countless hours talking about life, girls, games and everything else people our age were into at the time.
In 2010, he disappeared from the community, only to reappear again in 2017. He came back under the name 'AlwaysTurtling.' I kept insisting he change his name back to Mindgame because of the significance the name had to the legacy and history of our community. He would eventually change his name back and it brought me great pride to know that a comrade and great friend had returned. We spent time catching up, playing games, and joking around as Chris had a great sense of humor. His random funny one liners and adult humor always added something to the conversation. I would find myself in hilarious situations where Chris happened to be the center piece of it all.
Chris and I had our ups and downs, as all great friends and family members do, but Chris was ALWAYS a good guy at heart. He was a good genuine person that just wanted himself and everyone else to have a good time.
This is why it pains me the most to know that he was dealing with an internal struggle. Please do not let his passing be in vain and be a lesson to us all to be kind, understanding, and accepting of one another. To help each other thrive and persevere through difficult times in order to achieve what we all want at the heart of it all, happiness and fulfillment.
We are better together than we are alone. It goes without saying that his passing has created a void that is irreplaceable. The light within myself and my community will shine slightly dimmer, but he will ALWAYS, ALWAYS be remembered. Thursday, November 21, 2019 Rest in Peace brother, this world is sharp and its ways of teaching us in life cuts like nature's knife at an unprecedented moment. I don't think anyone that is suffering through life in any shape of way imagines how their day could get worse on top of alot of issues today that I think plague alot of people's lives, but I can say safely that hearing of the passing of a friend and colleague is undoubtedly the last thing to cross people's minds when thinking what could go wrong.
I'll always remember you as one of the first people on Kaillera I was cool with and played alot of 4Player X-Men vs Street Fighter with. You remember, me you kic/jirachi and madhatter used to play alot together. I'll never forget the times we had on kaillera, ggpo, and fightcade and I will take your passing as a heeding of yet another warning that nothing in this world is sacred. My memories of you stem from a place where alot people have come and gone to simply enjoy a fighting game online, but to put it into such simple words would be degrading to the experience you, I, and so many others have had in that specific context. I consider that specific context of online anonymous fighting game community to be so sacred since I've been there since I was a young'n that its almost reality-shattering to have to face the truth presented before me, that logging on and expecting just another day to go by, I heard about your passing today and I am once again forced out of my own mind to realize not all things in life can be solved there. There is no answer to the eternal questions of life, but there is solidarity in life in knowing that the people around you will carry on your spirit and never forget the memories you have left them with.
We're all in our own mind game in life, playing by the rules set by ourselves that we adopted through watching others and being taught by them. Life is a journey that can be infinitely learned from, and more so we can learn to delve and brave ourselves into more challenging things once we've surpassed the things that mountain over us. It is up to humanity to concern itself with its own communication and to always try to improve it.
We will never be able to tell what is going on in one's life unless we learn to communicate as clearly as possible. Never take a conversation for granted with someone, you never know when it may be your last interaction with them.
Don't get stuck on small things in life, learn to overcome it and put yourself out there. People are our connections to others through out this Earth. We relate to each others chemistry, arts, and expression. You were like a brother to me and one of my best friends ever since i could remember as a child.
You always looked out for me threw the years, if i didnt have it you would make sure i wasnt left out of what ever it was. I remember you gave me a pair of your old skates just so i could skate with everyone those were the good days. I rememeber all the times i would walk down 2nd street and knock on your window to play video games, make music and beats and just hang out with you man. I was friends with him since we were kids, and spent so many days rollerblading or playing video games with him. I hope somebody from the family sees this, as I am filled with grief over this and unable to contact you any other way. None of the old phone numbers I had of yours will work anymore. I didn’t know this happened and so I missed the funeral which breaks my heart even more.
