However, in some cases the Add-In gets received again from Microsoft Update. In some cases, if I check for updates and use 'custom install', the Add-Inwill be listed and I can un-check it and then check the tick box for 'don't show me this update again'. However, in other cases a manual 'check for updates' does not list the Add-In so I can't un-check it to prevent it from coming back and then, at a latertime, it gets installed.
Is anyone experiencing these circumstances and if so, how are you handling it? I have used the method of removing the Microsoft Office File Validation Add-In from Add/Remove programs. Thanks.robey1626, I share your problem, though I might have pushed it a bit farther. I used Add/Remove to uninstall, but my next run of Microsoft Update presented it again, noting that it was already downloaded and just needed to be installed.
A file searchunder WindowsSoftware Distribution turned up a folder containing a single file (OFV.cab, if I remember correctly - wish I'd done screenshot). Thinking just removing the folder would create an option to select the 'Don't show me this update again' option,I did that.

Unfortunately, I overlooked the possibility that MU keeps a list somewhere of downloaded updates. I still am offered the opportunity to install the update, without the desired checkbox to not show me the update - only now, I don't have the folder or file.I've scanned the registry for obvious references ('OFV' & 'Office File Validation'), but found nothing. I assume that the download database or catalog may be damaged if I tell it to install when I know the OFV.cab file and its parentfolder are not there.I hope someone can tell me (us) appropriate steps for fixing the database/catalog, so that I don't have to down an extra cup of coffee to be extra alert when running Microsoft Update. For the benefit of anyone willing to help, I'm running XP SP3 andOffice 2003, and am up to date on all updates.

All updates are handled on this machine (no network update support), so I assume that the updates database/catalog would also be local. Thanks in advance!
