Garmin Mapsource China City Navigator V7.5 Nt (eng) Img Version

Sorry if this has been discussed before (I admit it-I got lazy and blew off search!).but I'm totally confused over a Garmin map update.I've had City Navigator v8 for the past few years. Today, when I went to Garmin's site to unlock my maps (after reformatting/reinstalling them on my laptop) there was a notice saying I could download my 'Onetime' map update to City Navigator NT 2011.Not wanting to lose my 'Onetime' update, I said sure, go ahead, not realizing it was gonna take all day! But my confusion comes from an email that said the download would update the maps on my device.I'm confused because this update is called City Navigator NT 2011.and it's saying it'll be installed on my device.but I've never had any City Navigator maps preinstalled on my device-just the ultra-basic Garmin base map that came on the device. (And there is no way my Oregon 450 could possibly hold ALL of the City Navigator maps at once!)If it's updating the maps on my laptop, it's not acting like it, because it keeps telling me not to unplug my device.Has anyone else been through this update?

What the heck is going on?Thanks,Scott. Descargar dbz mugen edition 2011 hi-res. I think the updater is confused. What you downloaded is intended to update the pre-installed maps on a device such as the Nuvi. Our mapping FAQ might help:I know that you can update City Navigator if it was purchased on DVD, but I don't think it is compatible with the nuMap free update that you downloaded. Also, is your old version - City Navigator v8 - the NT version (are the letters NT in the name somewhere)? If not, then you definitely cannot update that old version. So I'm pretty sure you were offered an update that doesn't apply to you. You would probably need to contact Garmin support to find out for sure. I'm not sure what happened, but you appear to be wrong Boyd!

(And I don't know why!)I spent a few hours downloading what was obviously a huge pile of map data.and when it was all done (my Oregon 450 was connected to my laptop throughout the entire process) a message appeared saying 'Your maps are now up to date!' When I opened MapSource, it shows that I now have the unlocked City Navigator NT 2011 maps.I'm still thoroughly confused, and will give Garmin a call tomorrow to ask them what just happened? It appears as though I just got a totally free upgrade from City Navigator 8 to City Navigator NT 2011.assuming those are the same product? (Just different versions?)Scott. Well that's pretty cool. I wouldn't call Garmin myself. They may try to take it away.:lol:It should not have updated the non-NT version of City Navigator. But maybe you found a cool backdoor way to get City Navigator NT for free?

The big question would be whether it will work on your Oregon. The maps don't need to be unlocked to work on your computer, but they do on the GPS.It could be problem for somebody with an old GPS that can't use the NT version of City Navigator, because that new map wouldn't work for them. Well.I just selected and sent some maps (using City Navigator NT 2011) from MapSource to my Oregon 450.and they seem to be going onto the Oregon just fine.As for a 'backdoor' way to get the City Navigator NT 2011 maps for free, I have no idea? I just logged into 'My Garmin' and there it was.But now I'm a bit suspicious.it could well be my imagination.but when I was selecting maps to send to my Oregon, it appeared as though the selection polygons were bigger (e.g. All of West Virginia was a single polygon).and it seemed like the total file size of the maps I sent to the Oregon was smaller than what I'm used to.which makes me wonder if somehow City Navigator NT 2011 is a stripped-down data set from my original City Navigator v8?I did zoom in (in MapSource) and there.is. road detail (e.g.

Little backroads, not just the main highways).so it seems that CN-NT 2011 is a full data set.but I'm still wondering.I'd compare it with CN v8.but I can't unlock CN v8-every time I enter my unlock codes (which are plainly visible under 'My Maps' in 'My Garmin' MapSource doesn't accept it (Grrrr.) So I may still call Garmin about that.Scott. Do the maps work on the Oregon itself?Your observations are correct regarding the difference between NT and non NT City Navigator. The non NT version has been discontinued. It used smaller map segments which made it compatible with old units that had tiny amounts of memory. NT has state-sized map segments. And the NT maps have been compressed to fit more data in less space. So I'd say that's all to be expected. But if you can't use your old map anymore, and the new one doesn't work, then you've got a problem.

Also would be a problem if you want to use your old maps on an old model GPS that isn't compatible with the NT version. The new version of City Navigator can only be used on a single GPS. Assuming that it works on your Oregon, then it will be permanently locked to that unit and cannot be installed on another GPS.The old versions typically allowed installation on two GPS'es.

How many did you install it on in the past? You may have exhausted your unlock codes if it was already installed on two GPS'es. Yep-the City Navigator NT maps work fine on my Oregon (took it outside to make sure). Thanks for the explanation of the differences between the NT and older versions-that makes sense.I've never used any City Navigator maps on more than one device at a time.so that shouldn't be a problem. What concerns me about this 'onetime' free upgrade to City Navigator NT 2011 is I don't know if I'll be able to install it on more than one computer?

With my old City Nav I could install the maps on both my laptop and desktop (since it's the device they're locked to, not a given computer). The upgrade was small downloadable.exe which then downloads the full data set. So I guess I'll try downloading it again onto my desktop and see what happens? If the 'new and improved' City Navigator NT 2011 maps are all I need, then I guess I could just uninstall the old maps.Scott. You should be able to install the maps on as many computers as you like.

But they will only install on one GPS. It's not 'one GPS at a time', it's just one gps. Now that you have put them on the Oregon, you won't be able to install them on another unit.Clearly this is a glitch in Garmin's update process. Forgetting the facts that you didn't have a unit with pre-installed maps and you were updating old non-NT maps, the nuMaps guarantee is only supposed to be good for 60 days after purchase.Congratulations, you got a good deal.:). Just got off the phone with Garmin Support. Looks like I did indeed get a totally free upgrade (one-time) to the latest, greatest City Navigator mapset (NT 2011).

All of North America, fully detailed, fully functional in MapSource and on my Oregon. So woohoo!:)Funny thing is, the Garmin support guy didn't know why I got it either. He didn't say I should NOT have gotten the upgrade.he just said 'Well I guess there was some sort of deal going for owners of City Navigator v8.' So.for anyone with an Oregon and/or City Navigator v8, log into your 'My Garmin' site and see if there's a free upgrade waiting for you!Scott.
