Manual Til Telme F200
I am torn between the two cameras. LX3 comes with a F2.0 24 mm len while F200 seems to excel at higher ISO - 800 and above. Would appreciate if someone could shed lights which one should I go for.I am a keen night shot guys.
Lacking of tele end of the zoom is not a concern. Good effective IS is a bonus as I hate hauling the tripod around. Good PQ is of paramount importance. Hot shoe for an external flash in the LX3 is a bonus but not sure if there are reasonable priced matching TTL flash units from Panasonic. Raw shooting is a also bonus if for the reported inaccurate WB in LX3.I intend to use the dc to supplement my Nikon D700.Any views would be welcome. I have the LX3 and have used it under most conditions. Including a 3 week trip to Patagonia in S.
America. It captures wonderful images under most conditions. You can set the ISO limit, all settings are user selectable and the video is a very pleasing bonus, the camera has a good solid feel (especially with the bottom half of an optional case). There is very little plastic on it and the bonus Extended optical zome provides additional reach for those situations that require a little extra. The only minus has been some users feeling that the images come out a partial stop dark. Although very successful work arounds have been suggested.
Not an issue for most others. See image samples. The most annoying thing about the LX3 is that it is very difficult to find (in black) as of this writing. There are some silvers around but going fast. There seems to be a lot of unhappyness aimed at Panasonic but that's the price fence sitters have to pay for a camera that has been available for over 5 months.
Sometimes the process of indecision can make for major discomfort. It is unfortunate for those who have been saving for this special moment and now cannot locate this little gem.pK. Today, I received my new Fuji f200exr (battery is charging) and on Tuesday, I will be receiving a new silver Panasonic lx3 - so then I can compare the two.Like you, I was so undecided which one would be better - I decided to get them both as I hadn't bought any camera equipment for a while.Right now, I have a Fuji F20 and F30 that I like a lot. However, I was wanting something with a wider lens.I don't do very much street photography at night (live in the country) but I like to have a small camera that is good in low light to have in my purse all the time whenever I go anywhere with my husband or friends. I also like to take pictures of my grandchildren without a flash on the fly without having to take out my 40D.
Also, I like a small camera that is good in low light to photograph knitting projects and stuff like that.Anyway, when I get the LX3, I will be doing some comparisons with both cameras taking the same pictures in low light situations with high ISO. If possible, I'll try taking some street shots with both cameras. Sammie 619 that won't work as I found out just a few days ago. You can set one camera at a certain apeture and shutter speed and it may be right on according to what the camera shows as being the optimum setting.
With another camerathose same setting can be way less than ideal. Cameras have been engineered to do very well in P (program) Mode. AS you know in that mode the camera picks the apeture and shutter speed and you can adjust the ISO, exposure and the color. Take this site here, they do ISO comparisons. A and S modes ok but not manual mode with apeture and shutter speeds setting set the same.
I most likely said this for nothing as you will find out for yourself, if you don't already know it at this moment;when you go to setting both the apeture and shutter speed settings together the same on both cameras.Looking forward to your comparison test. I'm think an F200EXR will go well with my FZ28. Thank you very very much for what your doing.David F. Dear Hairy:I do not have a Fuji to compare with my Panny.I was at the fisherman's terminal all day taking pictures. After the golden hour my camera didn't have enough light to take meaningful pictures. I broke out my LX3 and was taking pictures of the masts and electronics atenae in dynamic B&W.

It was dark and the camera was still taking pictures. I fired the flash a few times to see what would happen. Interesting but believe it or not, the pics without the flash were better. I switched to dynamic color when I went to dinner. The color was very nice given the lighting.I am so glad i bought this camera. Today I felt like a photographer.Marty.

While I am sure the LX3 would take good night shots, I am concerned with taking nightshots at iso 800 or above. I reckon it might not be as good as or as clean as the F200 in this aspect, I just wish to make an informed decision.BTW, do you know how much it cost to buy a small Panny TTL flash for the LX3?
Ajuwonowrote:LX-3 has f/2.0-f/2.8 lens.Which unlike DSLR, at f/2.0, it already has enough DOF.With Fuji needs to shoot at ISO800, LX3 can use ISO400.Also with RAW capability, we can use our preffered noise reductionprogram.Should beat Fuji's aggressive noise reduction.I'll take my LX3 over my Fuji F30 for low light (don't own FujiF200EXR).this is what I thought. 1.5 stops advantage in aperture equivalant to iso 400 vs iso 1000. Or iso 640 vs iso 1600. Is that a fair analogy? If iso 640 is good, I would have no complaint at all.
Rameshpkumarwrote:LX-3's lens is about 2 stops faster than Fuji's.Also LX-3 has optical stabilization that is effective even at 1/5 secs.LX-3 has good ISO performance till 400 and decent performance till 800.If you compare ISO 800 of both cameras Fiji may be the winner, butfor practical shooting combination of f/2 lens and stabilizationshould match or beat Fuji.I have the leica version and I love it.-Thanks RameshMy gallery:My D-LUX 4 gallery:My G9 gallery:would the LX3's IS more effective than F200's? Both of them are ccd-shifting type or optical shifting type?
